All day dating

Posted July 9th, 2007 under Life by MicheleP.

Last week, the Papa and I got to take the whole day off and spend it alone… SANS kiddos… and it was so wonderful – blissful, actually! We dropped the girls off at school in the morning and then headed off to Starbucks for a coffee and a little sweet treat then spent over an hour browsing all the latest books at B&N. I got a new James Patterson book and he got something in the sci-fi-fantasy…aka “weirdo” genre ;) . We couldn’t have more totally different tastes when it comes to reading.

After we made our purchases we headed over for an early showing of Evan Almighty – and even though it was 10 in the morning…and we had just finished coffee and pastries, we didn’t forgo our movie tradition of popcorn and coke. Man – what a treat this movie was (and the popcorn wasn’t bad either). I haven’t seen a movie this good in a long time. It was clean. It was funny. And there were even some moments that caused me to think beyond “I’m sitting in a theatre being entertained for 90 minutes.” If you are a devout Dobson follower, you might be tempted to skip it…but I gotta tell ya, I think Dobson totally missed the mark on this one.

Dobson said, “I was also uncomfortable with the depiction of our most righteous God as an ordinary man who, though endearing and warm, danced and performed funny miracles.” Seriously, have you been to a zoo lately? There are some profoundly funny miracles of creation on display there. I can appreciate that it might not be for everyone, but we thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it despite the funny miracles.

After the movie, we did some shopping and then stumbled upon an out of the way French bakery for a late lunch. Even though they had sandwiches…and even a healthier alternative…salads… that wouldn’t be what we ordered. Nope. We went for the gusto – because 1)it’s not often that we don’t have children with us who we are setting an example for 2)kids on too much sugar is NOT a pretty sight and 3) well, because we could, we feasted on some of the richest and mouth watering pastries I’ve had in a long time. We are talking chocolate, cream, flaky crusts…the works – and not one, not two, but THREE, to be exact…shhh, don’t tell Chip – pastries for breakfast, popcorn for snack and pastries again for lunch clearly are NOT part of my training plan. Heck, who am I kidding… forget Chip, my mom reads this blog from time to time – that’s who I’m gonna hear it from ;)

[...] Earlier this week, Scott and I were sitting having some coffee after dropping the girls off at school (boy, this day dating thing can be quite addictive) – I was going on and on about my “what-if” concerns about our upcoming embryo transfer – basically just being a stressball, worry-wart and pessimist about the whole thing (boy, doesn’t that sound attractive?)
