Truth in love

Posted July 11th, 2007 under Clara and Libby, Life, Mothering by MicheleP.

Scott and I have long joked about “speaking the truth in love” to each other – when someone is having an especially bad hair day…or the pants really DO make a behind look big… we try to tell the other person and always follow it with “truth in love, baby…truth in love.” It seems my girls are learning this all too quickly – or maybe it’s just that at their age they don’t have social filters – anyways, it’s made for some funny conversations lately.

Today we were on our way to meet some friends at a local coffee shop (a coffee shop that BRILLIANTLY has a playroom attached to it) so I didn’t have my usual cup 3 cups of coffee to start my day. Libby was talking NON-STOP and by NON-STOP, I really mean I was wondering if she was breathing in between the “Mama, what is…?” questions. After the 4th or 5th question I was beginning to get a little short tempered and sort of snapped back to her with a “Sweetie…can you just look out the window and see what you can find for a little bit?”

And the sweet girl – she did just that – looked out the window right as we passed Starbucks and proclaimed, “Mama, You need coffee.”

Truth in love – right?
