One O Four

Posted April 10th, 2008 under Life, Travel by MicheleP.

104. One hundred four dollars. I can think of a lot of things that could buy…

Some new clothes

Food for a week

3 tanks of gas

A haircut & foil

An airline ticket? Sure, if it’s one of those “hopper” flights – you might get a roundtrip ticket somewhere for $104 – but to the U.S. from Puerto Rico?

Hardly Yep.

A good friend of mine (hi Kim!) clued me into this little program that Spirit@ir has where you join their $9 club and they send you special flight deals. I was skeptical - because you have to pay $30 to join – but Kim assured me there were deals to be had and so I joined.

We’ve been talking about a trip to Orlando and doing the Disney thing with the girls but just not sure about the timing of it all. And then yesterday I got the email about the latest fare sale and sure enough the San Juan-Orlando flight was on special…and I hit the jackpot – roundtrip tickets to Orlando for $104. That’s a pretty darn good deal.

But folks – I’m not talking about $104 PER ticket – I’m talking $104 for the TICKETS- as in for our entire family. Yep. $104 for FOUR roundtrip tickets to Orlando. Now, we might have to refinance the house to pay for the Disney tickets…but come September we’ll be in Orlando ;)

Man, I love me a good deal!!!

Wow! That’s a very good deal! Unfortunately I guess they don’t have such cheap deals for Europe ;-) When we lived in Brussels we could also get super cheap plane tickets for sometimes as little as $20 as long as you were flexible and planned ahead – something my Spanish husband is not very good at!!

    Oh, I am so jealous! We’re going to Orlando in May/June, and we paid more than that per ticket! As for Disney tickets, when we went a couple of years ago, we got an AWESOME deal for on-property lodging, 7 day park hopper admission, and all meals through Sam’s Club Travel. That, or Costco, or some other wholesale club might have some good deals right now;

Thanks for the info Michele! We are going to Disney in Orlando in November, the week of Thanksgiving and I could really use some cheap airline tickets. That is awesome!

    So I should add…

Yes, it is a real plane and it is flown by an actual pilot (someone did ask).

We do have to pay for luggage ($20 per bag) but we’ll manage with carry-ons. What more do you need than tshirts, shorts, swimsuits & flip flops?

Tammy – sorry, but they don’t fly to LR :( or even DFW or Memphis…But, um, you could fly HERE and then catch the flight from here to Orlando :)

[...] So, yeah, we are following the storms…in more ways than one. We leave PR bright and early tomorrow morning - just in time to make it to Florida to welcome the effects of Hanna and then Ike before coming back to PR in time for Josephine’s magic. Or at least that’s the plan. Maybe Josephine will give us an extended vacation – I can’t think of a better place to be “stranded” than Disney .   [...]
